Peru Lima 1: Pelagic in Lima
This is an special trip for birding pelagic birds, it is entirely developed in the Peruvian Sea one of the richest seas in the world due to its privelege geographic ubication the Humboldt Ocean Current and Niño Ocean current meet at this point resulting in a splendid biologic resources.
The Pacific Ocean is generally a quiet sea, hardly ever with bad weather, this allow us to observe birds without difficulty.
Day 1 Pelagic
Board at the Callao port, near the coast we will be able to observe Peruvian Pelican, Peruvian Booby, Blue-footed Booby, Guanay Cormorant, Neotropic Cormorant, Red-legged Cormorant.Near the islands we can find species like Humboldt Penguin South American Tern, Inca Tern, among others.
We will have the opportunity to be 6 or 7 hours on the sea to 20 or 25 nautical miles from the coast in deep waters suitable to observe , according the season , bird Antarctic and North Pacific species like Peruvian Diving-Petrel, Chilean Skua(NB), Swallow-tailed Gull(NB), Band-rumped Storm-Petrel(H), Elliot’s (White-vented) Storm-Petrel, Markham’s Storm-Petrel, Ringed Storm-Petrel, Wedge-rumped Storm-Petrel, Wilson’s Storm-Petrel(NB), Black-browed Albatross(NB), Gray-headed Albatross(NB), Southern Giant-Petrel(NB), Antarctic Giant Petrel(NB), Salvin’s Albatross(NB), Buller’s Albatross(NB), Waved Albatross(NB), Southern Fulmar(NB), White-chinned Petrel(NB), Sooty Shearwater(NB), Pink-footed Shearwater(NB), Cape Petrel(NB).
We use Chuming to appeal the birds, this technique give us best results.
We will enjoy of the company of playful dolphins in our route, and if we are lucky enough, will see whales.(BL)
