North Peru 1: Northern Peru, Endemic and Pelagic

The North of Perú always surprises us. On this pre-tour you will increase  the number of species you expect to see on the main Tour you chose, due to our visit to Bosque de Tumbes this place has a great biological diversity  from the Amazon and many endemic species , with various  habitats standing out the  Pacific Tropical Forest, Equatorial Dry Forest  and  the Endemic Region of  Tumbes.We will be visiting the Santuario Nacional Manglares de Tumbes, this area is protected by the Peruvian Government and is a RAMSAR site where we find many marine and shorebirds species and associated to salt water.  To finalize the Pre-Tour we will do our Pelagic on the Grau’s Sea (Grau is a Peruvian Marine Hero) here we will observe birds associated to Galápagos Island.

Day 0.    In the afternoon  flight to Tumbes.

Day 1,2 Forest Tumbesian Region.

Early in the morning  after a delicious breakfast, we will be leaving for the bosque de Tumbes in the Parque Nacional Cerros de Amotape sorroundings, we will go into the stream Faical there is the El Caucho Biological Station, we will spend all day birding by the various trails, here we will find Crested Guan,Rufous-headed Chachalaca, Grey-breasted Flycatcher, Saffron Siskin, Slaty Becard, Blackish-headed Spinetail, Henna-hooded Foliage-Gleaner, Guayaquil Woodpecker, Scrub Antpitta Ecuadorian, Trogon Grey-necked Parakeet and many others. Camp on the surroundings of the El Caucho Biological Station. (B, BL, D)

Day 3     Forest Tumbesian Region and Mangrove

We will make a brief stop in the forest to observe some species, at midmorning we will head for the Manglares de Tumbes.The will spend the rest of the day visiting the Santuario Nacional Manglares de Tumbes, we enter by Puerto 25 which is a small fishing village, these people get organized to work responsibly for the development of Ecotourism as a way to ease the impact of the extraction of  mollusks and crustaceans in the mangroves.This is a very good area to observe birds, here we can find species shorebirds, associated to mangroves like Tumbes Swallow, Mangrove (Yellow) Warbler, Brown Pelican, Peruvian Pelican, Magnificent Frigatebird, Mangrove Black Hawk, Tricolored Heron, Bare-throated Tiger-Heron, White Ibis, Masked Water-Tyrant, Ruofus-necked Woodrail, Yellow-crowned Night-Heron, Great-tailed Grackle, Scarlet-backed Woodpecker, among others. In the late afternoon we will head for the Resort in Punta Sal. Stay at a comfortable Resort. (B, BL, D)

Day 4.    Pelagic

After a delicious breakfast we board a motor boat  and sail looking for the pelagic birds.  Beginning the tripo we will look for Swallow-tailed Gull, Nazca Boobie, Peruvian Boobie, Blue-footed Boobie, Red-footed Boobie, Ringed Storm-Petrel, Wedge-rumped Storm-Petrel, Black Storm-Petrel, (Band-rumped/ Madeiran/Harcourts) Storm-Petrel, Markham’s Storm-Petrel, Elliot’s (White-vented) Storm-Petrel Great Frigatebird, Red-billed Tropicbird, Galapagos Shearwater, among others. Punta Sal or Organos is a famous seaside resort where the sea is warm, specially we will enjoy jumping from the speedboat for swimming. In the afternoon we will arrive to Chiclayo or Lima depending on the main Tours you choose. Stay at a comfortable hotel in Punta Sal or Organos. (B, L, D).

Departure:  From April to November.  December to March is Rainy Season but the trip is still possible.

Included: All meals (save to contrary), guide, double accomodation with private bathroom in Tumbes and Punta Sal or Organos, camping in Tumbes Forest only, tents and matresses, Domestic Flight Lima-Tumbes.
