Peru Lima 2: Santa Eulalia Valley and Marcopomacocha
This tour is entirely developed on the highlands of Lima in the Valle de Santa Eulalia and in the highest zone of Marcopomacocha. To arrive to this valley we depart early in the morning, we take the Central Highway following a detour on the left side getting into this beautiful valley, here we can observe several endemic birds of the highlands, also we will look for the Andean Condor, emblematic bird of the High Andes.
Day 1. Lima – Valle de Santa Eulalia
We start the first part of our route by the Santa Eulalia Valley up to San Pedro de Casta, at this point we will be birding the Eared Dove, Rufous-breasted Warbling-Finch, Mourning Sierra-Finch, Rusty-bellied Brush-Finch and others. We continue going up to Huachupampa a village in the Santa Eulalia highlands, we will wait for the Andean Condor taking a delicious breakfast by the canyon, we expect to be lucky enough to see this beautiful bird.Then we will go down to Utisha bridge, in this area we can see Giant Hummingbird, Andean Tinamou, Sparkling Violetear, Purple-collared Woodstar, we must be attentive for birds of pray.We will stay at a basic hotel in Huachupampa. Day 2. Valley de Santa Eulalia – Marcopomacocha
Near Utisha bridge we take a detour on the right side to Marcopomacocha zone, before, we will make a stop at the small Polylepis Sp. Forest, by the road and will look for the White-cheeked Cotinga (E), continue our trip we will arrive to the Puna zone near Marcopomacocha and look for species like Puna Snipe, Rufous-bellied Seedsnipe, Gray-breasted Seedsnipe and the White-bellied Cinclodes (E). In wetlands Along this trip, we will see some species of birds like Black-necked Woodpecker(E), Black-winged Ground-Dove, Greenish Yellow-Finch, Bronze-tailed Comet, Oasis Hummingbird, Purple-collared Woodstar, Peruvian Sheartail, Mourning Sierra-Finch, Peruvian Sierra-Finch, Pied-crested Tit-Tyrant, Rusty-bellied Brush-Finch(E), White-winged Cinclodes, Canyon Canastero, Rusty-crowned Tit-Spinetail(E), Streaked Tit-Spinetail, Great Inca-Finch(E), Peruvian Pygmy-Owl, among others.Return to Lima in the afternoon.
